Jane Baker

"I have taken singing lessons since I was a teenager and Jennifer Nagy is one of the best teachers I have ever had.  Her multi-faceted approach and her insistence on hard work and ongoing vocal development are rare qualities.  She takes a personal interest in all her students, no matter what level they are and adapts repertoire to their own particular needs with the goal of advancing in vocal expertise always the goal.  I highly recommend her for students, whether beginners or advanced singers."

"Jennifer Nagy has been my daughter's voice teacher for about 8 years.  She works with her students diligently so their vocal abilities improve and grow.  My daughter's skill in vocal performance amazes not only myself, but my husband and others who knew my daughter before her voice lessons.  Her growth is astounding.  Without Mrs. Nagy's knowledge of her profession and her compassion of her students and their abilities my daughter would not be pursuing a career in vocal performance."

All students must bring a digital recorder (there is one on your phone) or a blank CD-R to each lesson.  We will record vocalises, music and monitor your progress by recording each lesson.  Listening to yourself is extremely valuable in bringing greater understanding of your voice and in making vocal progress.  Also, I do have 2 cats and 1 small dog at home in case you have allergies to cats or dogs!

Jennifer Nagy’s Voice Studio operates on an Aug-May academic year with added special summer sessions. For the 2019-2020 academic year, lessons begin August 26, 2019 and end May 15, 2020.  Your lesson time is reserved for you to use and it is expected the time will be given a high priority in your schedule. The studio operates on a tuition basis which means the total number of lessons in the term are divided evenly over the months of the term, the amount is the same each month… no need to budget a different amount each month depending on the number of weeks or lessons.
Holidays and Studio Closures: Please see this year’s calendar for holidays and studio closure dates.
Make up lessons are not given, but a flex dates are scheduled at the end of each term for a make-up opportunity; no refunds.

Chamber work includes appearances with great critical acclaim with Chamber Music PLUS Southwest collaborating with actors such as Lynn Redgrave, Efrem and Stephanie Zimbalist, Margot Kidder, and Hayley Mills.  In November of 2009, Ms. Nagy played the role of Micaela in Phoenix Opera’s production of Carmen.   In Phoenix Opera’s 2010-11 season, she appeared in the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.

Jennifer Nagy received her Bachelor of Arts in Music with emphases in voice and piano performance from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA.  She received her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.   I continue to study, perform, practice, and improve my vocal abilities and my teaching skills.

I have been actively involved in the Valley of the Sun Chapter of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) for almost 20 years.

My students regularly place in the Arizona NATS Student Auditions & in the Arizona NATS Music Theater Student Auditions. My high school students have been successful at the Regional Honor Choir Auditions and some have made it into the Arizona All-State Choir. I have former students who have attended all three of the major Arizona universities (Northern Arizona University, Arizona State University, University of Arizona) as music majors or minors, as well as several who have attended out-of-state schools as music majors or minors.  Some have gone on to have professional vocal performance success.

I help develop a strong, healthy vocal technique that develops and enhances each students unique sound and talent.   I believe in positive reinforcement and strong encouragement as prime motivators.   I am a great “cheerleader” for my students all along their growth as a vocalist.  Each student becomes more aware of his/her own voice, is more aware of how to achieve what they want vocally, and gains increased flexibility, control, and confidence in their voice.
